How Are You Doing
In my current role as mail order internet employee, the answer to the question, "How are you doing?" depends very much upon who is asking. Generally the wise answer is one which offers an idea of determination and happiness without closing in upon any suggestion of smugness because the employee should be like a Persian Carpet. Imperfect by design. This way, as the tapestry is weaved, each thread remains driven to do better.
It's the maintenance of slope, I would argue. And more often than not there is a sense of randomness, promulgated by never quite knowing how an employee is doing. Which in one sense is a good enough definition of suspicion. This means that at no time is the summit achieved, it just goes on, endlessly. Call it "Better and Better." Or if you can call it "Worse and Worse." And damn how I miss the Union.
